Message from Chairman, IEEE Madras Section
Greetings to everyone!
First, I would like to thank everyone for the huge mandate and showing trust on me to serve as your IEEE Madras Section Chair.
Being in academia for a couple of decades has continued to nurture my passion to help our community by leveraging my technical skills. This clearly resonates with IEEE’s vision of fostering technological innovations in excellence for the benefit of humanity. I first became an IEEE Member in 2001 and soon understood the significance of volunteering. With your support, I have also been able to contribute as the Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive Committee member of the IEEE Madras Section. I have organized 100+ activities; 30+ educational activities, 75+ CIS chapter activities, especially in rural areas. I have been recognized for my work on membership retention rates and for my services as a treasurer. I plan to bring this experience and my knowledge of the organization to focus on aligning our section to our core values.
Society chapters, student branches, student branch chapters, YP, WIE are the strength and essence of an IEEE section. Our Madras Section will encourage and provide them with complete support by offering members a strong motivation to stay active within the organization.
I will concentrate on creating a bridge between the section, R10, and headquarters by organizing conferences, workshops, educational and professional activities. IEEE conferences, publications, and other activities need to be competitive and qualitative. They should be developed with volunteers’ inputs and respond to volunteers’ needs. We should improve volunteers’ visibility into the development and operation of IEEE services. The section will ensure fair participation from different groups of IEEE.
Smart grid and networking are fast developing areas that should be supported by new IEEE initiatives in next generation technologies. This will enable proactive discovery of new opportunities in conferences, publications, training and other areas.
Our section will promote joint cross-disciplinary initiatives to encourage a collaboration between societies to focus and promote overlapping advance technologies.
Power and energy industry is going through a dynamic evolution with restructuring, smart grid, electrical vehicle, energy storage and applications of AI. Our section needs to stay at the forefront to help guide this evolution. It could be achieved through your support and active participation.
I strongly hope I can and I will lead these changes as chairman of IEEE Madras Section to the utmost satisfaction of everyone. Let us all work together in creating our Madras Section a technical home for all.
Wishing you and your family a safe year ahead!
