IEEE Madras Section is involved in many capacity-building exercises for young students. In this regard, Student Project Funding (SPF) has been conducted successfully for the past 10 years since 2010 to motivate undergraduate students - supporting 63 projects with over Rs. 5 lakhs in funding. As the next progressive step, IEEE Madras Section has embarked on extending project funding support to Postgraduate students and Doctoral Scholars, looking for novelty and state-of-the-art techniques in their submissions. Through these exercises, the Section emphasises and supports the development of communication and technical skills required by students and scholars.
Must be an IEEE student member undergoing a PG / Ph.D programme at a College / University.
Guided by an IEEE Professional member working at an Engineering Institution in Tamil Nadu or Puducherry.
Project duration is a maximum of 6 months.
The project may be on any engineering subject within IEEE's field of interest (scope of IEEE Transactions).
Participation is individual - an active IEEE student member - with PG and Ph.D. level work carried out individually.
All correspondence is through the team leader, who must be an active IEEE student member.
A detailed abstract (3–5 pages, MS-Word) and a project video are to be sent to ieeemas@gmail.com, followed by a hard copy plus soft copy of the documents and video on CD to the IEEE Madras Section office. Submission can be associated with coursework (project or research) from a recognized institute, or extra-curricular work. The proposal must be original and free of plagiarized material - the 3-minute presentation and demonstration video (3 minutes) will disqualify any submission running over time.
The detailed abstract should contain
A project guide from an Engineering / R&D institution may supervise only one project per academic year, and must be an IEEE member. Every abstract is allotted a reference number by the Section - all further correspondence refers to it.
Change of project name / team members will not be entertained after proposal submission.
The project must be innovative; repetition of an already-available project will be disqualified.
Simulation / analysis-based work is considered, since the majority of PG / Doctoral scholars work in this mode.
Hardware-based work must be demonstrated to the committee.
Selection / rejection is based on validation by the panel of judges. Only selected projects receive funding and certification - other participants are not eligible for a participation certificate or funding.
The outcome of the PG / Ph.D. thesis work should be presented at conferences and published in journals.
Please note: only two projects are accepted per institution. If more than two project proposals are submitted, the remaining proposals will not be considered.
Send your abstract and documents to the Section, well ahead of your project timeline.
