The IEEE (Eye-triple-E) is a non-profit, technical professional association of more than 377,000 individual members in 150 countries. The full name is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., although the organization is most popularly known and referred to by the letters I-E-E-E.

Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others.

Through its technical publishing, conferences and consensus-based standards activities, the IEEE.

Historically, the activities of the IEEE Madras Section started in 1973 as the Tamil Nadu Sub-section of the Bangalore Section. The Sub-section attained Section status on 28th April, 1978.

IEEE Madras Section Silver Jubilee Year (1978-2003), was celebrated in a grand manner, honoring the members of 25 years’ standing and invited all members to share their information & knowledge on our Section’s past history & achievements & welcomed their suggestions.

IEEE-MAS Section is now 27 years old – it has become Silver. This Silver Jubilee year has (2004) seen the revival of the Section News Letter.

The Executive committee came into existence on the theme “Engaging Members”. This is now the Mission of the committee, and ever since coming into Office, the committee is striving to maximize the interaction between the IEEE Members.

Besides the Executive Committee, several sub-committees have been formed to assist the Executive Committee and to take care of different activities of the Section.

IEEE-Madras Section publishes a monthly Newsletter called IEEE-MAS Link. It includes the contributions from the prospective student members and other members. The current and back issues of IEEE-MAS Link are available for viewing and downloading below

A Growing Reputation :
The Section’s small cluster meetings evolved into Congregations with increasing membership.
Student branches were formed in various technical institutions by visiting them & explaining the benefits of IEEE membership. The IEEE Madras Section took great efforts to increase the educational and technical activities in the Section and in increasing the Student Branches.

The India Council was formed to co-ordinate the activities of the Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta & Madras Sections and our Section was in the limelight and helped through contacts, with the Engineering Colleges for increasing the Student Branches in our Section. The present Team that took charge in Nov.’03 is committed to excellence & hard work, to achieve the Vision, Mission & objectives of IEEE, and to bring the Section to great heights.

IEEE GOLD @ MADRAS SECTION
IEEE Madras GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) is a peer group of recent graduates and young engineers. The purpose of GOLD is to help young engineers bridge the transition from college to work life. GOLD gives young engineers an opportunity to network with their colleagues and attend events pertaining to their interest. Anyone who has graduated from university within last decade automatically becomes a member of GOLD.
